Lena Mary Calhoun Horne (June 30, 1917 � May 9, 2010) was an African American singer, actress, civil rights activist and dancer. Horne joined the chorus of the Cotton Club at the age of sixteen and became a nightclub performer before moving to Hollywood, where she had small parts in numerous movies, and more substantial parts in the films Cabin in the Sky and Stormy Weather. Due to the Red Scare and her left-leaning political views, Horne found herself blacklisted and unable to get work in Hollywood.

I think there is a bit of art lover in every person. I don't remember ever being in a house where there wasn't some type of art adorning the walls. I'm a person who for his entire life has surrounded him self in natural settings that inspire artistic expression. It's very cliched to say this I know but the saying "life is art" is an accurate statement. My interest in art is a very natural expression of who I am. People interest me as subject matter. They are a part of the natural environment and also provide interesting subject matter for my art I prefer to be in natural settings like the mountains or state forests in Pennsylvania and Delaware.
